The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has praised members of the Abeokuta Girls’ Grammar School Old Girls’ Association (AGSOGA 75 Set) for their unwavering commitment to educational development, mentorship, and school infrastructure.

Speaking at the association’s 50th Anniversary Celebration Dinner held at Daktad Hotel, Abeokuta, the Governor described alumni groups as “key partners in sustainable nation-building.”

Represented by the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Adijat Adeleye, Governor Abiodun noted that government alone cannot meet all infrastructural and social needs, highlighting the importance of collaborations like those demonstrated by the AGGS Old Girls.

He particularly lauded the commissioning of the newly refurbished Junior School Library at Abeokuta Girls’ Grammar School, saying the initiative bridges vital gaps in learning while inspiring the next generation.

“This is a shining example of gratitude turned into legacy,” he remarked, adding that the association’s mentorship and empowerment programs have strengthened Ogun State’s educational ecosystem.

The Governor urged younger generations to emulate the selflessness and community spirit of the AGGS 75 Set, stressing, “True greatness is not measured by what we take from society but by what we give back.”

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to encouraging private and community participation in education and women’s development.

In her remarks, the President of AGGSOGA 75 Set, Mrs. Folasade Alatise-Adesoye, represented by Vice President Mrs. Kehinde Hamed-Bada, said the golden jubilee was not only a celebration of the past but a renewed commitment to giving back.

“That is why we are proud to commission the refurbished school library, a place of knowledge, inspiration, and discovery. May it serve generations of young Abeokuta girls yet unborn,” she said.

Mrs. Alatise-Adesoye emphasized that the Old Girls are custodians of a heritage that must be preserved, noting, “The same way our founders invested in us, we must invest in the future. The same way we were taught discipline, moral uprightness, and godliness, we must pass it on.”

The event concluded with the Chief Judge of Ogun State, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, presenting Governor Abiodun with an award of excellence, recognising his administration’s contributions to educational advancement in the state.
