The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has rolled out a series of infrastructure projects worth N2 billion for Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Ojere, Abeokuta, as part of efforts to reposition the institution.
Governor Abiodun made the announcement during the 15th combined convocation ceremony of the polytechnic held at its campus on Thursday.
As part of the interventions, the governor disclosed plans to construct a 500-seater ultramodern lecture theatre, a new building for the Department of Accountancy, the access road leading to the auditorium, as well as the construction and equipping of a modern library.
To further support the institution, the governor donated a brand new 28-seater bus to MAPOLY, marking the convocation ceremony.
Abiodun also announced a cash gift of N2.5 million for each of the best graduating students from the 2016 to 2024 academic sets, stressing that rewarding academic excellence remains a priority of his administration.
His words: “We will be building a 500-seater ultramodern lecture theatre. We will also construct the road leading to the auditorium of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic and build a new structure for the Department of Accountancy. In addition, the School of Business and Management Studies (SBMS) block and a modern library will be constructed and equipped.”
“Altogether, these interventions will gulp about N2 billion. We are committed to investing this sum to reposition this institution for excellence,” the governor declared.
Abiodun noted that MAPOLY graduates have distinguished themselves across various sectors, both within and outside Nigeria, describing the institution as a breeding ground for future leaders.
The governor explained that his administration’s decision to restore the original MAPOLY to its Ojere campus after it was converted to Ogun State Polytechnic and relocated to Ipokia has revived the polytechnic’s ecosystem and restored its prominence.
“We took the bold decision to bring MAPOLY back to Ojere, and today, that decision is yielding results. This institution is bouncing back to life, and we will continue to invest in its development,” Abiodun added.
