The Federal Government has assured Nigerians, particularly the Muslim community, of stable electricity supply throughout the holy month of Ramadan, which began on Saturday.
The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, gave the assurance in his Ramadan goodwill message, acknowledging the electricity challenges in the country while emphasizing that efforts are underway to ensure improved power supply during the fasting period and beyond.
“As the Minister of Power, I am acutely aware of the challenges that many Nigerians face, particularly in the area of electricity supply. I understand that the observance of Ramadan often requires increased energy consumption, especially during the pre-dawn (Suhoor) and post-sunset (Iftar) meals, as well as during nightly prayers (Taraweeh),” Adelabu stated.
He reiterated that the Federal Ministry of Power is actively working to stabilize the electricity grid, improve power infrastructure, and expand access to electricity across the country.
“We are committed to improving the nation’s power infrastructure, addressing issues of grid instability, and expanding access to electricity for all Nigerians. Our goal is to ensure that every household can observe Ramadan with comfort and dignity,” he stressed.
While urging Muslims to use electricity responsibly, Adelabu encouraged energy conservation to reduce pressure on the national grid.
“Small actions, such as turning off unnecessary lights, using energy-efficient appliances, and unplugging devices when not in use, can go a long way in reducing energy consumption. By doing so, we contribute to the stability of power supply and demonstrate our commitment to environmental sustainability, which aligns with the Islamic principles of stewardship over the Earth’s resources,” he noted.
Adelabu described Ramadan as a period of deep spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and devotion, calling on the Muslim faithful to seize the opportunity to pray for Nigeria’s peace, stability, and progress.
“Beyond the physical act of fasting, Ramadan is a time for spiritual renewal and personal growth. It is an opportunity to strengthen our relationship with Allah (SWT), seek forgiveness for our shortcomings, and strive to become better individuals. The Holy Qur’an, which was revealed during this blessed month, serves as a guide for righteous living and a source of solace and inspiration,” he said.
In the spirit of Ramadan, the Minister urged Nigerians to embrace unity and harmony, regardless of religious or ethnic differences.
“Nigeria is a nation blessed with diversity, and it is through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation that we can overcome our challenges and build a brighter future. Let us use this holy month to foster peace, tolerance, and goodwill in our communities and pray for the progress of our beloved country,” he added.
Adelabu also called on the Muslim faithful to dedicate time to reciting the Qur’an, engage in acts of charity (Zakat and Sadaqah), and contribute to community service, noting that these are key virtues of the fasting period.
“To our Muslim brothers and sisters, I urge you to pray for Nigeria’s peace, stability, and development. Let us beseech Allah (SWT) to guide our leaders, strengthen our institutions, and bless our nation with abundant resources and opportunities,” he prayed.
