The Nigerian media industry has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a vibrant news anchor, reporter, and producer with ARISE News Channel, who was killed during a robbery at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.
Maduagwu, popularly known as “Sommie” among colleagues, was attacked in the early hours of Monday. She was 29 years old.
Confirming the incident, ARISE News described her as “a cherished member of the ARISE News family” whose professionalism and engaging voice deeply connected with viewers.
The management said in a statement, “Sommie’s voice is now silent but her spirit, passion, and legacy will endure as part of our collective memory. We call for a speedy investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of the culprits.”
The Nigeria Police Force has since commenced an investigation into the tragic event.
Born on December 26, 1995, Maduagwu was a trained lawyer before switching to broadcast journalism.
She quickly became one of the promising faces on Nigerian television, widely admired for her warmth, eloquence, and dedication to duty.
