Arsenal sent a powerful message in the Premier League title race on Sunday by thrashing defending champions Manchester City 5-1 at the Emirates Stadium.

The emphatic victory closed the gap to league leaders Liverpool, reigniting the Gunners’ championship ambitions.

The highly anticipated clash saw Arsenal capitalize on Manchester City’s early defensive error, with Martin Ødegaard slotting home the opener within two minutes after Kai Havertz set him up.

Despite missing a golden opportunity to double the lead, Havertz’s wastefulness momentarily left Arsenal vulnerable.

City found a way back into the match early in the second half when Erling Haaland powered in a header, marking his 250th career club goal.

However, Arsenal quickly restored their advantage just over a minute later when Thomas Partey’s shot deflected off John Stones and into the net.

The Gunners continued their dominance as Myles Lewis-Skelly, who was only available to play after his controversial red card against Wolves was overturned, made his mark.

The 18-year-old curled in a stunning effort to make it 3-1, celebrating in Haaland’s signature meditation pose—a clear response to the Norwegian striker’s previous remarks urging Mikel Arteta’s side to “stay humble.”

Arsenal remained relentless, carving open City’s defense with ease. Havertz made amends for his earlier miss by drilling a low shot into the far corner, extending the Gunners’ lead.

The rout was completed in stoppage time when Ethan Nwaneri, another Arsenal youngster, curled home a beautiful strike to send the home crowd into jubilation.

The defeat leaves Manchester City in fourth place, now trailing Liverpool by a staggering 15 points. With their hopes of defending the title fading fast, Pep Guardiola’s side appears to be struggling to match their usual dominance.

Meanwhile, Manchester United suffered yet another setback as they fell 2-0 at home to Crystal Palace, marking their fifth defeat in their last six league matches at Old Trafford.

Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta was the hero of the night, netting twice in the second half to pile more pressure on the Red Devils.

As the Premier League season intensifies, Arsenal’s commanding display against the defending champions has sent a clear warning to their title rivals: the Gunners are not backing down.
