Arsenal climbed to the top of the Premier League table on Saturday after securing a convincing 2-0 victory over West Ham United at the Emirates Stadium, while Manchester United eased growing pressure on manager Ruben Amorim with a much-needed win over Sunderland.

In what marked Mikel Arteta’s 300th game in charge, the Gunners delivered a dominant performance to keep their title hopes alive, overtaking Liverpool ahead of the Reds’ clash with Chelsea later in the day.

Former West Ham captain Declan Rice haunted his old club by opening the scoring from a rebound, before Bukayo Saka sealed the win from the penalty spot.

The result pushed Arsenal one point clear at the top, though their joy was tempered by an injury concern for captain Martin Ødegaard, who limped off before halftime. West Ham’s defeat, meanwhile, deepened their relegation worries as the Hammers remain in the danger zone.

At Old Trafford, Manchester United ended a run of poor form with a 2-0 victory that offered relief to under-fire manager Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese coach, who had admitted before kickoff that his job was on the line, watched his side respond with purpose as Mason Mount opened the scoring in the eighth minute, before Benjamin Sesko netted his first home goal to seal the win.

A debut clean sheet from goalkeeper Senne Lammens also added to the positives, as United produced one of their most composed performances of the season. Amorim described the result as “a step in the right direction,” acknowledging the importance of the win in restoring belief among players and fans.

Elsewhere, Tottenham climbed to third with a 2-1 victory at Leeds United, ending the hosts’ long unbeaten home run. Liverpool will look to reclaim the summit later in the evening when they face Chelsea in a high-stakes showdown at Stamford Bridge.
