Former Minister of Justice and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Abubakar Malami, has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), blaming worsening insecurity, hunger, and bad governance for his decision.
Malami, a prominent political figure from Kebbi State, declared his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in a statement on Tuesday, describing the move as a patriotic step to rescue Nigeria from further decline.
“This is not a decision made out of anger or ambition, but one inspired by love for our nation and concern for the hardship our people are facing daily,” he said.
According to him, the situation in the country has deteriorated under the APC-led government, with banditry, kidnappings, terrorism, and hunger ravaging communities, especially in the North.
“Nigeria is bleeding. Insecurity has taken over our homes, especially in the North. Banditry, kidnappings, and terrorism have become part of our lives while the government prioritizes politics over the safety of its citizens,” Malami lamented.
He added that the rising cost of living has worsened the plight of ordinary Nigerians.
“Our economy is in shambles. Prices of basic food items have tripled. The poor can no longer feed their families. Jobs are disappearing. Young people are hopeless. Instead of focusing on real solutions, the government is consumed by propaganda and political distractions,” he noted.
Malami accused the ruling party of abandoning governance for political loyalty, insisting he could no longer remain silent as Nigerians continue to suffer.
“This is why I am joining the ADC — a platform built on the values of justice, inclusion, competence, and national renewal. I believe that through this coalition and with the support of Nigerians, we can chart a new course for our beloved country,” he declared.
To the people of Kebbi State, Malami pledged continued loyalty, promising to amplify their voices and work towards restoring hope.
“I will never abandon you. This move is to protect your interests and restore hope to our future,” he assured.
The former minister called on Nigerians to rise above fear and join the movement to reclaim the nation.
