The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, Hon. Oluwole Oke, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending his longstanding association with the party that brought him to national prominence.

Oke, who represents Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency of Osun State, made the announcement on Tuesday, attributing his decision to wide consultations with political allies, family, and constituents.

“After deep reflection and wide consultations with my political associates, friends, and family members, I have decided to resign from the Peoples Democratic Party.”

“This decision is necessary to reposition myself for the political journey ahead. I remain committed to the progress and development of my people,” he stated.

Though he did not disclose his next political destination, Oke reassured his supporters that his focus remains on legislative service and constituency development.

“This is not a goodbye from politics. My allegiance remains with the people of Obokun and Oriade. I will continue to serve them in the best way I can,” he affirmed.

Oke, a respected voice in the House, is among the longest-serving lawmakers in the National Assembly, first elected in 2003. His legislative career spans six terms, interrupted only between 2011 and 2015. He is renowned for his role in ensuring fiscal accountability as Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.

Full List of Representatives of Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency (1999–Present):

1999–2003: Rep. Rufus Olutayo (Alliance for Democracy – AD)

2003–2007: Rep. Oluwole Oke (Peoples Democratic Party – PDP)

2007–2011: Rep. Oluwole Oke (PDP)

2011–2015: Rep. Nathaniel Agunbiade (Action Congress of Nigeria – ACN)

2015–2019: Rep. Oluwole Oke (PDP)

2019–2023: Rep. Oluwole Oke (PDP)

2023–Date: Rep. Oluwole Oke (PDP, now resigned)

Oke’s resignation adds to the ongoing realignment of political forces ahead of the 2027 general elections, raising speculation about a potential switch to another party such as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or a new political platform.
