Two-time presidential aspirant and prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Dele Momodu, has declared that unseating President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election would be nearly impossible without a united front by opposition forces and a candidate from a different regional bloc.

Speaking during a live appearance on the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State’s monthly programme, Guest of the Month, in Ibadan on Tuesday, Momodu emphasized that internal divisions within PDP and external interference have weakened the party’s ability to reclaim power.

“The APC is jittery of the PDP,” Momodu stated.

“It remains the only opposition party capable of posing a real challenge to the APC’s dominance in 2027.”

He noted that the ruling APC is deliberately promoting internal divisions in the PDP to prevent a formidable challenge in the upcoming election.

“There is no way that a disunited PDP can wrest power from APC in 2027,” he said.

“The ideology of the ruling party is to weaken the main opposition party.”

Momodu lamented that certain PDP members are allegedly working against the party’s interest from within.

“Some of its members are being used to work against its stability and progress,” he explained.

“But PDP is a law-abiding party. It always follows due process before taking any decision on its members. It is the law that will stimulate the process of suspending or sacking erring members.”

Despite the challenges, Momodu maintained that there is still a path to victory for the opposition, but only through a coalition.

“It is almost impossible to remove the incumbent president in 2027 unless there is a coalition,” he said. “The coalition of both the hungry and not-so-hungry will contest against the APC in 2027.”

He further stressed the importance of regional balancing in fielding a viable opposition candidate.

“Whoever would contest favourably against the current president must come from the opposite direction in terms of regions in Nigeria,” he said, hinting at the need for broad-based national representation in the 2027 electoral strategy.
