The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has debunked reports circulating on social media alleging that some young people residing around Nyanya had sold their kidneys for money.
The Command, in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said it had neither received nor confirmed any report relating to the alleged kidney sales or claims that an agent in Mararaba was purchasing human kidneys.
The police described the publication as false and urged members of the public to disregard it, warning that the circulation of unverified information could cause unnecessary fear, panic and apprehension among residents.
The Command said no statement or communication confirming the alleged development had emanated from it, stressing that members of the public should verify information before sharing such reports.
It, however, urged anyone with credible information concerning alleged human organ trafficking or any other security concern within the FCT to report promptly to the nearest police station.
The Command also provided telephone lines, 07038979348 and 08028940883, for members of the public to contact the FCT Police Command with relevant information.
