First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has announced that over N20 billion has been raised so far toward completing the National Library project in Abuja.
The initiative forms part of her “Oluremi at 65 Education Fund,” established to mark her 65th birthday on September 21, 2025.
Speaking to State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Mrs. Tinubu explained that she had appealed to well-wishers to convert birthday greetings and gifts into donations for the project.
“The completion of the National Library will be a great birthday gift for me,” she said.
Recalling her experience as a senator on the Senate Committee on Education, the First Lady noted that the project, which dates back to the Shehu Shagari administration, had long suffered from lack of progress.
She stressed that libraries played a crucial role in shaping her formative years and remain vital for nurturing young Nigerians.
Mrs. Tinubu urged citizens to embrace the spirit of service, citing the words of a former American President who encouraged people to consider what they could do for their country rather than what the country could do for them.
She confirmed that donations had exceeded N20 billion, with more contributions still expected.
