Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked the National Park Service office in Oloka, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, with about five personnel feared killed.
The attack, according to findings, occurred at about 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
Sources said the assailants stormed the facility and opened fire on officials of the National Park Service, leading to the death of some personnel, though the exact casualty figure is yet to be officially confirmed.
Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, told journalists that the attack indeed took place.
“Yes, there was an attack by yet to be identified men against the men of the National Park. The Commissioner of Police and other service chiefs are currently on their way to the location,” he said.
Ayanlade added that security measures had been intensified in the area to prevent further violence.
“Meanwhile, the CP, Femi Haruna, has deployed tactical teams, Mobile Police Force officers of the Nigeria Police Force and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit to the affected area to prevent further breakdown of law and order,” he explained.
As of the time of filing this report, details surrounding the motive for the attack and the identity of the attackers remained unclear, while security agencies continued operations in the area.
