A 36-year-old woman, Anulika Onyeanusia, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command over the alleged sexual abuse of her daughters and production of sexual content involving the children.
Onyeanusia was arrested in Onitsha following the circulation of a disturbing livestream involving one of the children, which sparked public outrage and prompted calls for authorities to intervene.
During preliminary investigations, the suspect allegedly admitted making money from the materials, saying the highest amount she received was $300 from a foreign national.
“It was the handiwork of the devil. I am sorry, forgive me,” Onyeanusia was quoted as saying.
She added: “The highest I’ve made is $300. It was one American guy that was paying me to do it, sometimes $100, sometimes $300.”
The police said the suspect’s arrest led to the rescue of four children aged two, three, six and nine years.
Sexual devices and other items believed to be relevant to the investigation were also recovered.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, Tochukwu Ikenga, said in a statement that the suspect remained in police custody while investigations continued to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and determine whether other persons were involved.
Ikenga also disclosed that the suspect’s husband was being interrogated to determine whether he had any connection with the alleged offence.
The police said the investigation would be intensified to establish the full circumstances of the case and ensure that the rescued children are protected.
