Abuja – The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has reported that nine armed criminals were killed in gun duels with police operatives between October and December 2025, while six officers lost their lives in the line of duty during the same period.
Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Miller Dantawaye, disclosed this on Friday at a press briefing at the command headquarters in Abuja.
He presented the command’s quarterly scorecard, highlighting operational successes alongside the sacrifices of officers.
“During several high-risk operations, particularly anti-kidnapping and robbery responses, nine armed suspects were neutralised following gun duels with police operatives while attempting to evade arrest or abduct victims,” Dantawaye said.
He added that six police officers paid the supreme price while performing their lawful duties to protect lives and property in the territory. “Their sacrifices remain a solemn reminder of the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the protection of lives and property. May their souls rest in peace,” he said.
The commissioner noted that despite the losses, the command achieved significant results, arresting 160 suspects out of 300 reported cases across various crime categories. Kidnapping incidents accounted for seven cases, with 41 suspects arrested, while 62 armed robbery cases led to 38 arrests.
Additionally, 26 “one-chance” robbery cases resulted in 12 arrests, and 35 incidents of car theft and vehicle snatching led to 11 arrests and the recovery of 20 stolen vehicles. Dantawaye said 24 kidnapped victims, including women and children, were rescued, alongside eight victims of other violent crimes.
The command also recovered a large cache of weapons and exhibits, including 21 AK-47 rifles, 10 shotguns, a K2 rifle, locally fabricated firearms, live ammunition, vehicles, illicit drugs, and N15.45 million in cash.
Dantawaye thanked the Inspector-General of Police, the Minister of the FCT, sister security agencies, and residents for their support, urging continued community cooperation to sustain peace in the territory.
