Apps make our lives easier — from banking and shopping to messaging and entertainment. But not every app is safe, even if it looks harmless. Some apps are designed to spy, steal information, or display unwanted ads. A lot of times, when we get new mobile devices, they come with useful apps but not all are useful to us.

Many people download apps quickly without checking permissions or reviews. This is exactly what cybercriminals rely on. Once an unsafe app is installed, it can quietly collect personal information, display fake ads, or redirect users to fraudulent websites.

A phone that suddenly starts behaving strangely is often trying to warn you.

Warning Signs to Watch For:

Your phone becomes unusually slow or hot.

You see pop-up ads even when no app is open.

Apps ask for permissions that don’t make sense (e.g. a torch app asking for contacts).

Your data or battery drains very quickly.

Unknown apps appear that you don’t remember installing.

How to Protect Your Phone:

Download apps only from official app stores.

Unused Apps, especially on new devices can be uninstalled.

Check reviews before installing anything new.

Keep your phone updated with the latest software.

Be cautious with apps sent via links on WhatsApp or social media.

A phone that is no longer safe can put your money, privacy, and identity at risk.
