In a spectacular display of strength and speed, Team Ogun’s Kolade Otunla etched his name into the record books by winning gold in the men’s 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:02 minutes — a new national record.

Otunla’s performance broke the previous benchmark set in 2018, drawing thunderous applause from spectators and earning him instant acclaim as one of Nigeria’s rising swimming stars.

Cheers erupted across the arena as the young swimmer powered through the final lap, leaving competitors in his wake and the audience on their feet. The victory not only crowned him champion but also underscored the growing dominance of Team Ogun in aquatic sports.

“This is a dream come true,” Otunla said after the race. “I’ve been training tirelessly, and to see it all come together on this stage is beyond words. I’m grateful to my coaches, teammates, and everyone who believed in me.”

His coach hailed the win as a product of sheer discipline and hard work. “Kolade has been incredibly focused,” the coach said. “What he achieved today is not by chance. He trained like a champion, and now he is one.”

Team officials and fellow athletes also commended Otunla’s dedication, noting that his gold medal win is a morale booster for the entire contingent.

“This is a huge moment for Team Ogun,” one teammate remarked. “Kolade has set a new standard. His victory is an inspiration to all of us.”
