The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced that over 127 million Nigerians are now registered in the National Identification Number (NIN) database as of December 2025.
Dr. Kayode Adegoke, the commission’s spokesman, confirmed the figures and said updated nationwide statistics would soon be available on the NIMC website.
He urged Nigerians to take advantage of the Commission’s digital platforms for new registrations, data corrections, and other NIN-related services.
According to NIMC data from October 31, 2025, Lagos State leads the nation with 13.1 million enrolments. Other top states include Kano with 11.5 million, Kaduna 7.3 million, Ogun 5.1 million, Oyo 4.7 million, and Katsina 4.2 million. The Federal Capital Territory follows with 4.06 million, Rivers 3.6 million, Delta 3.2 million, and Bauchi 3.2 million.
At the lower end of the scale, Kwara and Imo states have 2.09 million each, Yobe 2.08 million, Enugu 2 million, and Kogi 1.9 million.
Gender distribution shows 54,206,154 females and 69,700,164 males captured in the national database as at October last year. Dr. Adegoke noted that the figures reflect a nearly equal distribution across northern and southern regions.
NIMC continues to encourage Nigerians to register and update their information to ensure accurate national data and seamless access to NIN-linked services.
