Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has described the outcome of Saturday’s local government elections as a resounding victory not just for the All Progressives Congress (APC), but for all Lagosians who continue to uphold the ideals of democracy and grassroots development.
In a statement released on Sunday, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed joy and gratitude over the success of APC candidates across the 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the state. He congratulated the party leadership, stakeholders, and members for what he called a well-deserved triumph.
“This outcome is a clear affirmation of the trust and confidence that the good people of Lagos have in the APC’s vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment to inclusive development at the grassroots,” the governor stated.
Describing the victory as one that belongs to the people, Sanwo-Olu noted that it reflects the collective belief in continuity, progress, and people-centered governance. He extended his congratulations to the newly elected Chairmen and Councillors, while reminding them that their mandate must be guided by humility, service, and a deep sense of accountability.
“This victory is not an end, but a means to an end—that end being selfless, responsive, and accountable service to the people,” he said. “Your responsibility is to uplift communities and promote the welfare of every resident—regardless of political affiliation.”
The governor also extended appreciation to those who contested in the party primaries but were not successful, urging them to remain committed to party unity and the democratic process. He called on all APC members to embrace reconciliation, put aside differences, and support the new local leaders in delivering on their mandate.
Sanwo-Olu commended the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) for conducting a peaceful and credible election and acknowledged the role of security agencies in maintaining order throughout the process.
“As the new local government administrations prepare to assume office, I reaffirm my unwavering commitment to working closely with them to drive meaningful development to all corners of our state,” the governor concluded. “Together, we will ensure that no community is left behind on our journey toward a Greater Lagos.”
