Jorge Messi, father of Argentina captain and football legend, Lionel Messi, has died at the age of 68.
According to reports from Argentine and Spanish media, Jorge died at about 10pm local time on Friday at a clinic in Rosario, Argentina, his hometown.
Infobae reported that it obtained information confirming the death of the father of the Inter Miami forward.
“Jorge Messi, the father of Lionel Andrés Messi, died last night at 10pm in a clinic in the city of Rosario, Argentina,” the report stated.
Jorge had reportedly been receiving medical treatment for a health condition before his death.
The Messi family has appealed to the public and the media to respect their privacy as they mourn their loss.
Jorge played an important role in his son’s football career and was closely involved in managing Lionel’s affairs as the Argentine star rose from a young talent in Rosario to one of the most celebrated footballers in the world.
His death comes after an emotional period for Lionel Messi, who featured prominently for Argentina during the 2026 World Cup campaign.
