Ibadan – Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Monday presented a N891.99 billion Appropriation Bill for the 2026 fiscal year to the Oyo State House of Assembly. Tagged the “Budget of Economic Expansion,” the proposal comes ahead of the state’s 50th anniversary celebration in February 2026.
Makinde disclosed that N389.34 billion of the proposed budget would cover recurrent expenditure, while N502.65 billion is earmarked for capital projects.
The budget prioritizes key sectors, with N210.02 billion allocated to infrastructure, N155.21 billion to education, N70.81 billion to health, and N19.99 billion to agriculture. Other multisectoral allocations total N435.9 billion.
Highlighting major projects expected to drive economic growth, the governor mentioned AfCFTA-focused initiatives, the Oluyole Free Trade Zone, Special Agricultural Zones, dry and logistics ports, upgrading Ladoke Akintola Airport, and the 110km Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road linking major commercial corridors.
Governor Makinde emphasized that the state’s greatest asset remains its people, stating, “Our people’s creativity and resilience are central to our development plans. As Oyo State marks 50 years, this budget reflects our commitment to building a stronger, more prosperous future.”
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin, described the proposal as ambitious and people-centered, noting that it resulted from wide stakeholder consultations across all seven geopolitical zones.
He pledged the legislature’s support for timely passage and rigorous oversight.
On security, Makinde reassured residents, noting that the state has procured two new aircraft to strengthen surveillance across the 33 local government areas.
Addressing concerns over ongoing circular road works, he said the projects followed previous approvals and will integrate affected residents into planning.
The 2026 budget presentation underscores Makinde’s administration focus on infrastructure, human capital development, and economic empowerment, aligning fiscal planning with the state’s milestone celebrations.
