Craneburg Construction Company, the contractor handling the reconstruction of the 69-kilometre Abeokuta–Papálanto–Ado-Odo/Ota Road, has apologised to motorists and residents over the persistent traffic congestion along the Toll Gate, Itori, and Papálanto corridors.
The company attributed the gridlock to heavy and prolonged rainfall which, it said, affected the pace of work and damaged some portions already reconstructed.
The Area Manager of the company, Mr. Nicholas Mfarrej, tendered the apology during an interface with members of the Ogun State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, represented by his deputy, Hon. Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Mfarrej explained that the company remained committed to delivering the project in line with global construction standards, assuring that as the dry season approaches, the pace and quality of work would improve.
He said, “We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by the traffic situation in some parts of the ongoing project. The rainfall has slowed down our progress, but we are back on track. As the weather becomes favourable, we will accelerate work to ensure completion by the end of next year.”
The contractor also appealed for patience from lawmakers and residents, saying the traffic gridlock earlier experienced had begun to ease as remedial works were being carried out.
In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, confirmed that the contractor had been directed to make both lanes motorable and take responsibility for the gridlock.
He pledged stricter supervision of the project to ensure compliance with standards.
Following deliberations, the lawmakers directed the Ministry of Works to step up monitoring and ensure that Craneburg adheres strictly to contract specifications to prevent further inconvenience to road users.
