The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Ogun State Command, has seized a total of 6,060.72 kilograms and 2,655.75 litres of hard drugs and liquid based illicit substances across the state within a 12 month period.

The disclosure was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the State Commander of NDLEA, Tijjani Rabe, and signed on his behalf by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics, Harisu Musa Adamu.

Rabe stated that the command also arrested 760 suspects during the period under review, adding that sustained enforcement operations contributed significantly to disrupting drug trafficking activities across the state.

According to him, the agency secured 159 convictions, with offenders sentenced to various terms of imprisonment by the courts, while 316 drug users benefited from counselling and rehabilitation interventions under the command’s drug demand reduction programme.

The commander said the command recorded notable progress in public sensitisation, with a total of 188 War Against Drug Abuse awareness programmes carried out across Ogun.

He explained that the campaigns reached over 100,000 people, including students, professional groups, religious organisations and community development associations, delivering messages on the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of prevention.

“In addition, the command undertook 31 advocacy visits to prominent individuals and key institutions, further strengthening community ownership of the anti drug campaign,” the statement said.

It added that the command’s supply reduction strategy was anchored on a community friendly approach that encouraged public trust and cooperation, leading to improved intelligence gathering and timely reporting of drug trafficking and peddling activities.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting communities in Ogun and dismantling illicit drug networks, stressing that traffickers would not be allowed to exploit the festive season.

“Drug traffickers and merchants will not be allowed to exploit this festive period, as the command will continue to intensify operations aimed at disrupting and decimating drug distribution chains to ensure a drug free Yuletide season,” the statement said.
