Amidst the ongoing leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly, ousted Speaker Mudashiru Obasa is currently holding a crucial meeting with Speaker Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, Lagos State Attorney General Lawal Mohammed Alade Pedro (SAN), APC Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi, and 38 lawmakers at the assembly garden.

The meeting comes just hours before the plenary session scheduled for later in the afternoon.

Although the details of the meeting have not been disclosed to journalists, sources within the assembly suggest it is connected to last week’s power struggle that saw Obasa defy his impeachment by presiding over a controversial session with four lawmakers.

Last week, a majority of lawmakers removed Obasa as Speaker, replacing him with Meranda. However, Obasa made a dramatic return to the assembly complex, convening a separate plenary despite his impeachment.

His actions heightened tensions within the legislative body, prompting interventions from party leadership.

There are strong indications that Meranda may step down following the intervention of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A source who spoke on condition of anonymity stated, “The party leadership is actively working on resolving the crisis. There is a possibility that Meranda will step aside to allow for a peaceful resolution.”

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command has reinforced security around the assembly complex to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

Officers have been deployed strategically to deter any disruptions by political thugs or miscreants.
