The Ogun State Government has set aside 5,000 plots of land for the construction of housing units for workers, as part of efforts to improve welfare and expand access to affordable home ownership across the state.
The Commissioner for Housing, Mr Akande Omoniyi, disclosed this on Monday during a press conference held at the Ministry’s conference room in Abeokuta, where he outlined the ministry’s programmes and priorities for 2026.
Omoniyi said the housing project would be coordinated by the Office of the Head of Service, which would also handle the allocation process to eligible workers.
He explained that the scheme was designed to cater for low and middle income earners in the state civil service.
According to him, beneficiaries would acquire the housing units through a mortgage arrangement, with payment spread over an agreed period to make the scheme affordable and accessible.
“This project will cater for workers in the state, particularly low and medium income earners under the supervision of the Office of the Head of Service.”
“The State Government has acquired 5,000 plots of land for the execution of the project. Workers will apply through the Office of the Head of Service, while payment will be spread over a period of time,” Omoniyi said.
The commissioner added that the ministry’s 2026 budget had been structured to scale up project delivery across different sectors, in line with the development goals of the state.
He listed some key projects captured in the budget to include the construction of an International Conference Centre at Iperu, a modern 2,500-seater banquet hall, the Appeal Court Headquarters and judges’ residences, as well as the Ibara GRA Phase II housing project comprising 50 duplexes.
Other projects, according to him, include the construction of commissioners’ quarters, appointees’ quarters and assembly quarters.
Omoniyi said the projects were conceived to align with the state’s development blueprint, adding that they were aimed at ensuring coordinated growth in governance, justice delivery, hospitality and residential infrastructure, while improving the quality of life for residents.
