The Ogun State House of Assembly (OGHA) has passed a resolution urging the State Government to exempt teachers, healthcare professionals, first responders, emergency service personnel, and essential workers from paying toll fees at the Ijebu-Ode/Mojoda/Epe road during official working hours.
The resolution, sponsored by the Minority Leader and representative of Odogbolu State Constituency, Hon. Lukman Adeleye, received overwhelming support from lawmakers, who emphasized the financial relief it would provide to critical workers living in Imagbon, Imaka, Idiru, Itamakapo, and Odonoko.
Hon. Adeleye explained that the measure was necessary to encourage efficient service delivery, especially within rural communities.
He stated, “These essential workers dedicate their time and skills to public welfare. Exempting them from toll fees will not only ease their financial burden but also ensure that they remain committed to serving our communities without unnecessary obstacles.”
Lawmakers agreed that healthcare workers should be exempted from toll payments throughout the week, including weekends, given their round-the-clock service to society.
In another legislative development, the Ogun State Agricultural Advancement and Sustainability Bill, 2025, scaled its first reading after being presented by the Clerk/Head of Legislative Service, Mr. Sakari Adebakin Sakiru, marking a step toward strengthening the agricultural sector in the state.
During the plenary, the Assembly also observed a minute of silence in honor of the late Chief (Mrs.) Adenike Ebun Oyagbola, Nigeria’s first female minister, and Alhaja Fadilat Anike Salako, mother of the Minister of State for Health.
Hon. Wahab Haruna (Yewa North 2) and Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju (Yewa North 1) formally announced their passing under personal explanations.
The Assembly extended condolences to their families, recognizing their contributions to the state and the nation.
