The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, has urged fellow lawmakers to intensify oversight on constituency projects across the state to ensure contractors deliver quality work in line with agreed standards.
Elemide, who made the call during Tuesday’s plenary in Abeokuta, explained that funds for the constituency projects were paid directly to contractors, stressing that it is the responsibility of each lawmaker to monitor project execution in their respective constituencies.
He emphasized that proper oversight would guarantee that the projects meet the expectations of the people and align with the specifications outlined during the bidding process.
The Speaker commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for approving the release of funds for the projects, noting that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to grassroots development.
“This is about ensuring our people get value for every kobo spent. We, as lawmakers, must not fold our arms. We have a responsibility to follow up on these projects and ensure they are done to standard,” Elemide stated.
In a related development, the Speaker challenged the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, to expedite repairs on roads recently damaged by heavy rainfall in different parts of the state.
His comment followed a motion raised by the Minority Leader, Hon. Lukman Adeleye, who informed the House that the road linking Ososa Junction to Itanrin and Sabo Molode had been severely affected by recent downpours.
Adeleye described the road as critical to both his Odogbolu State Constituency and neighbouring Ijebu-Ode, urging immediate intervention to prevent hardship for road users, including school children and residents.
Responding, the Speaker acknowledged the government’s ongoing infrastructural efforts but called for prompt palliative measures on affected roads to ease the burden on commuters.
