The Ogun State Government has officially unveiled the mascot, logo, and theme song for the much-anticipated 2024 National Sports Festival, also known as Gateway Games Ogun 2024, with Governor Dapo Abiodun promising an unforgettable and impactful edition of the national sporting event.

The unveiling ceremony, held in Abeokuta, was graced by key stakeholders in Nigeria’s sports sector, including the Director General of the National Sports Commission, commissioners of sports from across the country, and members of the National Council of Sports.

Speaking through the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Governor Abiodun expressed delight at the occasion, describing it as a significant step in showcasing the state’s readiness and commitment to hosting the national games at an exceptional standard.

“Today marks another milestone in our journey towards delivering what we promise will be the most memorable, most inclusive, and most inspiring National Sports Festival Nigeria has ever seen,” he said.

The Governor also lauded Premium Trust Bank, the official sponsor of the event, for its partnership and vision in supporting youth development through sports. He acknowledged the bank’s Managing Director, Pastor Emmanuel Efe Emefienim, describing the support as “not just financial — it is a bold endorsement of the transformational power of sports.”

Ogun State last hosted the National Sports Festival in 2006. According to Governor Abiodun, the 2024 edition will raise the bar through innovative ideas and world-class preparations that will redefine the entire festival experience.

The theme song, composed by Dr. Bayo Adepetun, and the mascot, designed by a creative team from the state’s Ministry of Culture, were both unveiled at the ceremony. Governor Abiodun said the symbolic elements reflect the “energy, cultural heritage, and aspirations of the good people of Ogun State.”

The state’s Local Organising Committee (LOC), led by Dr. Kweku Tandoh and supported by Chief Bukola Olopade, has been commended for its relentless efforts in ensuring the success of the event. “We salute their commitment and that of every member of the LOC, our Sports Associations, and the countless hands working behind the scenes,” Abiodun said.

Significant investments have been made in sports infrastructure, with upgraded and newly constructed facilities expected to leave a lasting legacy.

“This is not just about Ogun 2024. Our goal is clear — to establish Ogun State as a prime destination for sports tourism and athletic excellence in Nigeria,” the Governor added.

He also reassured the public of the government’s commitment to athletes’ welfare and preparation, encouraging citizens to play their part in making the festival a success.

“To our citizens, sons and daughters of Ogun State at home and abroad, this is our moment to shine,” he said. “Let us make it count. Let’s make it spectacular. Let’s make it the best ever. Let’s make it Premium.”

Governor Abiodun concluded by inviting Nigerians from all walks of life to participate in the festival between May 16 and May 31, stressing the need for collective support from both the public and private sectors.
