The Ogun State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, OGUNCCIMA, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Chief Mrs Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo, wife of the late former civilian Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olabisi Onabanjo.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday by the Chamber and made available to journalists, OGUNCCIMA said Mama Onabanjo, a former First Lady of the state, died at the age of 101, describing her passing as a painful loss to Ogun State and those who witnessed her life of quiet strength and dignity.
The Chamber noted that Mama Onabanjo’s death marked the end of an era, given her role as a pillar of support to her family and her calm influence within the society during and after her time as First Lady.
Speaking in the statement, the President of OGUNCCIMA, Lion Niyi Oshiyemi, described the late matriarch as a woman of virtue whose life was defined by humility, resilience, and service to humanity.
According to Oshiyemi, “Mama Lucia Onabanjo lived a remarkably fulfilled life and was a stabilising force within her family and the wider community. As a pioneering First Lady in Ogun State’s democratic journey, she carried herself with dignity and left behind values that will continue to inspire generations.”
He added that her long life was a testimony to God’s grace, noting that her commitment to family unity and moral upbringing remained worthy of emulation.
OGUNCCIMA commiserated with the Onabanjo family, friends, associates, and the people of Ogun State over the loss, while praying that God grants them the strength to bear the pain of her passing.
The Chamber also prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul, urging the family to take comfort in the impactful life she lived and the enduring legacy she leaves behind.
