The Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Alayeluwa Oba Saka Matemilola, on Saturday crowned Oba Adediran Oluseyi as the new Towulade of Akinale at the Olowu Palace, Abeokuta, in a ceremony filled with cultural splendour, prayers, and jubilation.
The historic event, which marked a new dawn for the Akinale community, featured traditional rites, colourful displays, and the presence of dignitaries, chiefs, and indigenes who gathered to witness the ascension of their new monarch.
In his royal charge, Kabiyesi Olowu urged the newly crowned Towulade to serve with humility and a deep sense of responsibility.
He emphasized the need for peace, unity, and visible development within the Akinale community. “This throne is a sacred trust. I charge you to rule with fairness, promote harmony, and ensure that Akinale continues to grow in peace and progress,” Oba Matemilola declared.
Responding to his coronation, Oba Adediran Oluseyi expressed gratitude to God, the Olowu, and the people of Akinale for the honour bestowed on him.
He pledged to make the welfare of his subjects a priority. “This is a call to service. I will work tirelessly to promote unity, peace, and development for the good of Akinale and Owu Kingdom at large,” he said.
The coronation comes a little over a year after the passing of the late Towulade of Akinale, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye, who joined his ancestors in June 2024.
His reign was remembered for his dedication to journalism, public service, and grassroots development.
