Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested six suspects following the discovery of an alleged baby factory at Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, Mowe, in the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying the operation was conducted at about 8:00am on Monday, August 24, 2026, following sustained intelligence on alleged human trafficking and illegal adoption activities at the facility.

Babaseyi said two pregnant women and four children were rescued during the operation. The pregnant women were identified as 23-year-old Ilesanmi Foluke, who was seven months pregnant, and 20-year-old Ejekwa Melody, who was eight months pregnant.

The four children rescued comprised two boys and two girls, according to the police spokesperson.

Those arrested were identified as Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and an attending nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya.

The police said further intelligence led its operatives to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where another alleged victim, 26-year-old Blessing Bright Effiong, was found receiving medical treatment after giving birth to a baby boy on August 20.

However, the whereabouts of the newborn could not be established, prompting the arrest of the attending nurse as police commenced efforts to locate the infant.

“The whereabouts of the newborn child could not be accounted for, prompting the arrest of the attending nurse in locating the infant,” Babaseyi stated.

The command said the suspects and the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

According to the police, investigators would determine the full extent of the alleged syndicate’s activities, locate the missing newborn and prosecute anyone found culpable.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the operation and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling human trafficking, child trading and other forms of violent crime in the state.

Babaseyi added that the CP urged residents to remain vigilant and provide the police with timely and credible information, assuring that the command would sustain intelligence-led policing to protect residents.

The development comes months after operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, reportedly busted another alleged baby factory in the Okuju, Ilado area of Badagry, where 18 pregnant women and 10 children were rescued.

The operators of the Lagos facility were also arrested in the operation.
