Liverpool delivered a resounding statement in the Premier League title race on Sunday, dismantling a lackluster Manchester City side to extend their lead at the top of the table to 11 points.

Mohamed Salah was the standout performer at the Etihad Stadium, scoring once and providing an assist as Jurgen Klopp’s side tightened their grip on the title race.

Despite having played a game more than their closest rivals, Liverpool’s dominance sent a strong warning to the rest of the league.

The Egyptian forward opened the scoring with his 30th goal of the season, expertly finishing past City’s goalkeeper.

Before halftime, he turned provider, setting up Dominik Szoboszlai to double Liverpool’s lead and leave the hosts with a mountain to climb.

City, who have been inconsistent this season, struggled to mount a meaningful response as Liverpool’s high-intensity pressing kept them on the back foot throughout the match.

The defeat further dents Pep Guardiola’s hopes of retaining the Premier League crown, with City now facing an uphill battle to close the gap.

Reacting to the emphatic victory, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp praised his team’s performance: “The boys were outstanding today. We showed our quality, our hunger, and our belief. It’s a big step, but there’s still work to be done.”

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, however, admitted his side was second-best: “Liverpool deserved the win. We made mistakes, and against a team like this, you get punished. We have to regroup and move forward.”

With just a few months left in the season, Liverpool’s emphatic win over their closest challengers puts them firmly in the driver’s seat for the title.

The question now is whether they can maintain this momentum and secure their first Premier League crown since 2020.
