The Anambra State Government has presented 30 Toyota Hilux patrol vehicles to the Anambra State Police Command in a move aimed at strengthening security operations and improving public safety across the state.
The vehicles were handed over on Thursday at the Old Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia by the governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo. The presentation forms part of the state government’s continued support for security agencies in tackling crime and ensuring peace in Anambra.
A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the patrol vehicles would enhance police visibility, response time, and operational efficiency across major towns and communities.
According to the statement, Governor Soludo said the gesture reflected his administration’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force in its responsibility to protect lives and property. He noted that effective policing remained central to the state’s development agenda.
During the event, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, formally presented 28 Anambra indigenes who recently passed out as Assistant Superintendents of Police to the governor. The officers were posted to Anambra State after completing their training at the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano, and receiving presidential commissioning into the officers’ cadre of the Nigeria Police Force.
Ikenga explained that the deployment of the newly commissioned officers, alongside the addition of the patrol vehicles, would significantly strengthen security operations across the state.
While receiving the officers, Soludo urged them to uphold professionalism, discipline, and integrity in the discharge of their duties. He charged them to live up to the ideals of Anambra State and truly represent the state as “a Light to the Nation” through exemplary service.
The governor also stressed the importance of dedication and commitment to duty in sustaining peace and security, assuring the police command of continued collaboration and support from the state government.
Dignitaries at the event included the Secretary to the State Government, the Principal Secretary to the Governor, the Chief of Staff, senior police officers, and other stakeholders.
Recall that the Anambra State Police Command had earlier received an Armoured Personnel Carrier to boost its tactical capacity, a development the police leadership described as critical to addressing emerging security threats in the state.
