Senator Solomon Adeola, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, has expressed sadness over the death of Chief Mrs Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo, wife of a former governor of Ogun State, Chief Olabisi Onabanjo.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, the senator said Mama Onabanjo passed on at the age of 101 on Monday, January 11, 2026, describing her death as a painful loss to the Onabanjo family and Ogun State at large.
According to Adeola, the late former First Lady lived a fulfilled life, adding that her long years were a clear reflection of God’s grace and goodness. He noted that both her lifetime and peaceful passage were worthy of celebration.
“Mama Onabanjo was a model of a virtuous woman and a pioneering First Lady in Ogun State’s democratic history,” the senator said. “
She was a dutiful and responsible mother, grandmother and great grandmother who kept the family of her late husband together remarkably well over the years. She will be sorely missed by her immediate family and by many beneficiaries of her goodness.”
Adeola further stated that the values she stood for, including humility, service, and strong family bonds, would remain part of her enduring legacy.
While praying for the peaceful repose of her soul, the senator called on members of the Onabanjo family to draw comfort from the impactful life she lived.
“Her lifetime and passage are worthy of thanksgiving to God, even as we mourn her departure,” he added.
He also prayed that God would grant the immediate family the strength and fortitude to bear what he described as an irreparable loss.
