The Oyo State Police Command has stopped officers from the Kwara State Police Command from arresting controversial figure, Mr. Tani Olohun, in Ibadan, citing concerns over territorial jurisdiction and due process.
The Command made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, following the circulation of a viral video showing officers of the Kwara State Police Command in Ibadan.
According to the statement, the Kwara officers had arrived in Oyo State to arrest Tani Olohun pursuant to a warrant issued by the Upper Ilorin Magistrates’ Court, Ilorin, in connection with allegations bordering on conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.
The Oyo Command explained that the warrant was reportedly issued after Tani Olohun allegedly failed to comply with bail conditions earlier granted to him.
The statement, however, said the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, directed the officers to return to their base and advised the complainant to approach the appropriate court in Ibadan, where the alleged offence was said to have been committed.
“Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, directed the officers to return back to their base and advise the complainant to approach the appropriate court in Ibadan, being the alleged place where the offence was committed, in accordance with due process and the principles of territorial jurisdiction,” the statement said.
The Command said the clarification became necessary following public concerns generated by the video circulating on social media.
It urged members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding, warning against actions capable of disturbing public peace or escalating the situation.
The Oyo Police Command also reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that complaints are handled professionally in line with extant laws.
