President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has officially flagged off the Unity Torch movement ahead of the 22nd National Sports Festival, Gateway Games, Ogun 2024.
The ceremony, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, was attended by prominent figures, including Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and former governor, Aremo Segun Osoba.
The Unity Torch, a symbol of peace, unity, and sportsmanship, will travel across Nigeria, signaling the countdown to the nation’s premier multi-sport event.
Speaking at the event, Governor Abiodun reaffirmed Ogun State’s readiness to host an exceptional festival that will not only showcase athletic excellence but also promote national cohesion.
“The National Sports Festival is more than just a competition; it is a platform that unites our diverse cultures and brings Nigerians together through the power of sports”.
“Ogun State is fully prepared to deliver a world-class event that will leave a lasting impact on our sporting history”, Abiodun said.
The highly anticipated festival is scheduled to take place in Abeokuta from May 16 to 30, 2025. The state government has assured athletes, officials, and sports enthusiasts of a well-organized and memorable event, promising top-notch facilities, seamless logistics, and a warm hospitality experience.
The Ogun 2024 edition of the National Sports Festival is expected to set new benchmarks in Nigeria’s sports development, attracting thousands of athletes from across the country to compete in various disciplines.
