Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has commended the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as firm and deliberate steps to strengthen Nigeria’s security network.
Abiodun made the remark during a special church service to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Ake, Abeokuta.
He said the Tinubu administration, through its Renewed Hope Agenda, has demonstrated clear commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the country.
The governor noted that the President has taken decisive measures to enhance intelligence coordination, deepen interagency cooperation, improve troop welfare and equip the armed forces with modern tools needed to confront security challenges.
Represented at the service by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Abiodun said the ongoing efforts of the Federal Government were already yielding positive outcomes and helping to restore public confidence.
He urged Nigerians to support government at all levels by promoting peace and unity, stressing that national security was a collective responsibility.
According to him, the Armed Forces Remembrance Day serves not only as a time to honour fallen heroes, but also as a moment for thanksgiving, reflection and renewed national responsibility.
He said the occasion reminds citizens of the values of courage, sacrifice and patriotism defended by members of the armed forces.
Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of serving officers, veterans and families of fallen heroes, describing such support as a national duty rather than an act of charity.
In his sermon titled Greater Love: The Sacrifice of the Servicemen, the Bishop of Christ Chapel of Grace and Mercy, Ven. Dr. Samson Popoola, said no love could be compared to the sacrifices made by fallen heroes who gave their lives for the nation.
He added that their sacrifices were multifaceted, noting that many servicemen were often absent from family events in the course of their duties.
“We are gathered here to honour the fallen heroes, those living with disabilities and those still alive. The peace Nigerians enjoy today was purchased at a cost by our heroes,” Popoola said.
He explained that sacrifice was the language of true love, urging Christians to offer living and holy sacrifices to God, free from sinful acts.
He referenced Esther 4 verse 16, as well as the biblical accounts of Abel and Cain, to underscore the place of sacrifice in faith and service.
Speaking on the responsibilities of the living, the cleric said government had a greater obligation to care for families of fallen heroes, while citizens should also show love and support to them.
He encouraged serving personnel not to be discouraged, assuring them that their contributions to the nation were recorded in heaven.
