The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspects following a foiled robbery operation at a student hostel in the Eruku/Agbon area of Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying operatives of the Ewekoro Division arrested the suspects, identified as Waris Dauda and Tiamiyu Abiodun, in the early hours of Sunday, September 13, 2026.
According to Babaseyi, the incident occurred at about 2:40 a.m. after the police received a distress call that an armed gang was robbing students at the hostel.
He said the Divisional Police Officer and his team immediately raced to the scene, prompting the suspects to abandon their loot in a school bag and attempt to escape after sighting the approaching police operatives.
“However, the team pursued and successfully apprehended two suspects,” the statement said.
A search of the abandoned bag led to the recovery of 11 assorted iPhones, an HP laptop and various items of clothing. The police said some of the victims had already identified the recovered property as theirs.
Preliminary investigations, according to the command, further revealed that the gang allegedly forced one of the victims to transfer N200,000 into an account during the robbery.
Detectives have since visited the scene, where they documented evidence of forced entry and secured the recovered exhibits.
The command added that searches conducted at the residences of the two suspects did not yield additional incriminating items.
The suspects and the recovered property are being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
