The Federal Government has directed urgent palliative works on the Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta Road to address critical failures and restore smooth traffic flow.
Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, issued the order during an inspection of the federal highway connecting Lagos and Ogun States.
He explained that while about 22km of the road were assessed, immediate intervention would focus on roughly 18km of the most distressed sections.
Umahi noted that the government is already handling around 60km along the corridor, with works being executed in phases based on urgency.
He attributed the road’s deterioration to unresolved concession issues and misjudged engineering parameters during earlier construction.
“The repairs will commence immediately, mostly at night, targeting areas that prevent free movement of vehicles,” the minister said.
He added that low-lying failed sections would be reconstructed with concrete to ensure durability.
The Ota-bound carriageway, Umahi revealed, suffered more severe damage than the Lagos-bound side.
A second phase of the project will involve full resurfacing, replacement of bridge expansion joints, and installation of solar streetlights.
He also assured that the concessionaire would resume operation and maintenance of the road once the works are completed.
