Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has lifted the morale of the Super Falcons ahead of their second leg Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026 qualifier against the Amazons of Benin Republic with a cash donation of N50 million.

Abiodun made the announcement on Monday when he hosted the team at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. The Falcons are billed to face Benin Republic on Tuesday at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta.

The Super Falcons had earlier defeated the Amazons 2–0 in the first leg in Cotonou, with goals from Chinwendu Ihezuo and Esther Okoronkwo.

Governor Abiodun, while welcoming the team, said the financial gift was to appreciate their past achievements and motivate them for the upcoming encounter.

He praised the team for their leadership, teamwork and discipline, describing them as role models to millions of young Nigerian girls.

“As you prepare for the match, we will be supporting you, and I have no doubt that you’re going to qualify.”

“My support today is to appreciate you for your last victory and motivate you for the next tournament. On behalf of myself, my team, and the good people of Ogun State, we will be giving you a small sum of N50 million as motivation,” Abiodun said.

He added that the Super Falcons’ exploits go beyond football, stressing that their success continues to inspire young women to embrace discipline, teamwork and leadership in various spheres of life.

“What you are doing goes beyond just playing soccer. You are inspiring other young women to know that what a man can do, a woman can do even better,” he said.

The governor also disclosed that his administration plans to further develop the MKO Abiola Stadium environment with modern facilities including a four or five-star hotel, cinema, and shopping centre.

Head coach of the team, Justin Madugu, in his remarks, appreciated the governor and the people of Ogun State for their hospitality and for maintaining a world-class sporting facility.

“Each time we come to Abeokuta, we have no worries about the facilities or the reception we receive here. The environment you’ve created makes our job easier,” he said.

Team captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, also thanked the governor for his continuous support and assured that the Falcons would continue to make Nigerians proud.

“Your support means a lot to us. We will keep working hard to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians every time we wear the green and white,” Ajibade said.
