Twelve female farmers have been abducted by suspected Boko Haram members in Mussa district, Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The women were seized on Saturday evening while returning from their farms. The incident happened around 5pm, causing tension across the community.
Confirming the development in a telephone interview on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Nahum Daso, said the command had begun an investigation.
He said, “There was an abduction yesterday in Askira Uba. Twelve females were abducted by suspected Boko Haram terrorists when they were coming back from the farm.”
He appealed for calm and explained that security efforts were already in motion. “The details are still sketchy, but I can confirm that efforts are underway. When done, it will be made public,” he assured.
Residents in the area expressed worry over the incident. One of them, who declined to be named, said the community raised an alarm when the victims did not return home.
He said, “The news got to us at 5pm yesterday when their relatives could not tell their whereabouts. As a community, we have notified our elected representatives and traditional leaders, including security agencies.”
