The Lagos State Government has sealed no fewer than 26 bars and lounges in Lekki Phase 1 for persistent noise pollution and operating open bars in defiance of repeated warnings.
The enforcement exercise, carried out on Wednesday by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) under the supervision of the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, affected some of the most popular hangout spots in the area.
Among the establishments shut down were Farm City, Kingfisher, Beer Barn, Sailors Lounge, Bay Lounge, Circa Lagos, HQ Rooftop Lounge, Rango Rooftop Lounge, and The Mood Lagos. Others included Bolivar, Native Tray, LIIT Social House, and The Peacock Lagos.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in a statement, explained that the crackdown followed multiple complaints from residents about excessive noise levels and disregard for environmental regulations.
Wahab stated, “Today, the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, through the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, sealed a number of bars and lounges in Lekki Phase 1 for persistent noise pollution and operating open bars in defiance of repeated warnings. The Lagos State Government will not tolerate any form of environmental infraction; prosecution will be in line with the extant law of the state.”
