A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and the party’s former National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has announced the expulsion of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde; Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed; and former Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Bode George.

The announcement came hours after a dramatic confrontation at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.

The Wike faction said the expulsions became necessary due to what it described as “anti-party activities” and “persistent sabotage” allegedly carried out by the affected leaders.

In a statement issued after an emergency NEC meeting, the faction also dissolved the party’s executives in Oyo, Lagos, Bauchi Ekiti States, believed to be loyal to the embattled leaders.

It said fresh caretaker committees would be announced soon to “restore order and reposition the party for cohesion.”

According to the group, the turmoil within the PDP reached a tipping point after the confrontation earlier in the day, which saw top party figures forced out of the NEC Hall amid chaos and the firing of teargas.

The faction accused the expelled leaders of instigating the crisis and vowed to “cleanse the party of indiscipline” as it pushes for total control of the party structure ahead of upcoming political realignments.

Makinde and Mohammed were reportedly teargassed at the NEC Hall of the party headquarters as security operatives struggled to contain escalating tensions between rival blocs.
