The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress has faulted the recent announcement of the suspension of Senator Otunba Olugbenga Daniel by the Ogun State chapter of the party, saying no such action has been approved at the national level.
In a letter addressed to the Ogun State Chairman and dated November 17, 2025, the National Secretary of the party, Sen Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, PhD, said the national body had been flooded with reports about the alleged suspension of the senator who represents Ogun East Senatorial District.
The letter stated that the party had been “inundated with the recent notice of suspension of the Distinguished Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Sen Otunba Olugbenga Daniel,” noting that no final decision had been taken on the matter.
Sen Basiru explained that the National Working Committee had not deliberated on the issue as required by the party constitution. He wrote that the committee “is yet to deliberate on this matter as provided in Articles 21.3 d and e of the party constitution.”
He therefore directed the Ogun State chapter to step back from any further public communication on the suspension until the NWC reaches a conclusion.
According to him, the state leadership must “allow the National Working Committee to investigate the matter and take informed decision on the suspension before issuing any further public correspondence on this matter.”
Sen Basiru stated that until the national leadership concludes its investigation, Senator Daniel “remains a bona fide member of the party.”
He ended the letter by assuring the state chairman of his “highest regards.”
