Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has received another honour as the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos conferred on him the Fellowship of the Yaba College of Technology during its 37th Convocation ceremony held over the weekend.
This development was contained in a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro.
According to the statement, the recognition came in appreciation of the senator’s continuous contribution to education and his long standing support for the institution.
The award was presented to his representative, Honourable Bolaji Oyeleye, by the Rector of Yabatech, Dr Ibraheem Adedotun Abdul, who praised the senator for what he called his sincere dedication to educational growth.
The rector said, “We are honouring Senator Adeola for his contribution to the growth of education and the nation. His role in supporting the institution and his commitment to its upgrade over the years remain commendable.”
Senator Adeola expressed joy over the fellowship and reaffirmed his belief in quality education as a foundation for national development.
He explained that he had made several legislative efforts to transform Yabatech into a university.
In his words, “I am very happy about this award from the renowned Yabatech. I sponsored a bill for its upgrade to a university in the 8th Senate and re sponsored it in the 9th Senate. Even though it was passed then, it could not be concluded before the session ended.”
He also thanked the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, for reintroducing the bill which has now been passed by the National Assembly.
He added that the eventual upgrade would strengthen technological education and boost human capital required for the country’s industrial growth.
Senator Adeola further expressed gratitude to the management, staff and students of Yabatech for the honour.
He said, “I appreciate the rector, the governing council, lecturers and students for this recognition. I will cherish it and it will encourage me to do more. I remain committed to supporting education through school projects, scholarships and bursaries just as I have always done.”
He assured the institution of continued legislative backing as it progresses toward becoming a full fledged university of technology.
The award was presented in the presence of the senator’s wife, Chief Temitope Adeola, as well as supporters and well wishers.
