Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has installed HRH Oba Adio Maroof, Arole Ogunmisi Alagbe I, as the new Elegushi of Egushi, Ota Awori Kingdom, urging the monarch to promote peace, unity and development in his domain.
Abiodun, represented by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, spoke during the installation and presentation of the Staff of Office to the monarch in Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.
The governor said traditional institutions remained an important bridge between government, the grassroots and the people, charging the new monarch to use his position to foster peaceful coexistence among his subjects.
He commended the people of Egushi for maintaining peace and supporting the selection process, noting that the installation was carried out in accordance with the Obas and Chiefs Law of Ogun State 2021 and the customs of the people.
Abiodun urged the new Elegushi to cooperate with other traditional rulers and ensure strict compliance with the state’s Land Grabbing Prohibition Law.
He also called on indigenes and residents of the community to support the new monarch, stressing that their cooperation would be essential to the success of his reign.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Olota of Ota, HRH Oba (Prof.) AbdulKabir Adeyemi Obalanlege, commended Governor Abiodun for supporting the upgrade of the Egushi traditional stool from a Baale to a coronate Oba.
Obalanlege said the development would further enhance the growth and development of the area, while calling for unity among communities in Ado-Odo/Ota.
He noted that peace and harmony remained essential to achieving a prosperous future for the people.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Hon. Adewale Lawal, urged the new monarch to make his domain attractive to investors, saying such efforts would create employment opportunities for indigenes and residents.
Lawal further charged the monarch to uphold fairness and justice in handling matters concerning his subjects.
