The Ogun State Government has released N5.83bn for the payment of gratuity and additional pension benefits to retirees across the state.

The Head of Service, Olanrewaju Saka, disclosed this in a statement, explaining that the latest release was approved at the September 24, 2026 meeting of the Joint Accounts Allocation Committee.

According to him, N4.91bn of the amount will be used to settle gratuity for Local Government pensioners who retired in 2022 and State Universal Basic Education Board retirees who retired in 2021.

He added that N918.6m had been earmarked for the payment of Additional Pension Benefits to eligible retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme.

Saka said the latest intervention was part of the state government’s efforts to reduce outstanding retirement obligations and improve the welfare of retirees who served the state.

He disclosed that the administration had released N4.12bn in Additional Pension Benefits to CPS retirees since the beginning of 2026.

The Head of Service said the government had committed a total of N157.9bn to pension-related payments since May 29, 2019.

Giving a breakdown, Saka said N29.12bn had been paid as gratuity to 7,390 beneficiaries, while N105.39bn had been spent on pension payments to 16,420 beneficiaries.

He said N7.78bn was committed to CPS deductions for 29,883 beneficiaries between July 2025 and August 2026.

According to him, other payments included N3.33bn for Accrued Pension Rights to 2,567 beneficiaries, N5.04bn for arrears of CPS deductions and N1.35bn in Returns on Investment.

He added that N584.85m was spent on death benefits and other payments for 160 beneficiaries, while N1.32bn was provided as palliatives.

Saka further disclosed that Additional Pension Benefits paid to 709 beneficiaries amounted to about N4bn during the period under review.

He clarified that the N45.5bn figure previously associated with gratuity represented the broader amount committed to gratuity payments for Local Government and SUBEB retirees since 2019, while N157.9bn covered all pension-related categories.

The Head of Service assured retirees that the government would continue to meet its obligations and use available resources to address outstanding retirement benefits.

He said the sustained funding of pensions, gratuity and other retirement benefits was part of the government’s efforts to support senior citizens who contributed to the development of Ogun State.
