Leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have stepped down from their positions to pave the way for former Senate President, David Mark, and ex-Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, to take charge of the party’s leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The founding National Chairman of the ADC, Ralph Nwosu, confirmed the development on Wednesday during the unveiling of the ADC as the platform for the 2027 opposition coalition to challenge the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

The event, which held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, brought together key opposition figures pushing for a united front to unseat the current government.

According to Nwosu, the entire leadership of the ADC willingly resigned to allow Mark and Aregbesola to lead efforts aimed at repositioning both the party and the country.

“We all decided to resign so that Mark, Aregbesola and others can lead us to the Villa,” Nwosu declared.

He further announced that David Mark will serve as the interim National Chairman of the ADC-backed coalition, while Aregbesola takes over as National Secretary.

“When you look at the two of them and their commitment to this country, you’ll see that this is a new beginning. They will reposition the party and Nigeria,” Nwosu added.

The ADC has been at the forefront of building alliances among opposition parties, with many of its members describing the 2027 elections as a crucial opportunity to “rescue Nigeria from insecurity, hunger, and bad governance.”
