The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the judgment of a Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, which sacked the current chairmen and councillors elected on its platform, even as fresh legal and political tensions continue to trail the ruling.

The court, presided over by Justice Adefunmilola Demi-Ajayi, had on Monday declared that the tenure of the affected local government officials ended in October 2025, thereby dismissing their suit which sought to extend their period in office.

The council chairmen and councillors, elected during the October 15, 2022 local government elections and later returned to office in February 2025, had approached the court to determine the commencement and validity of their tenure after being unable to fully assume office earlier.

Delivering judgment, the court held that “the tenure of office of the elected officers of the local government councils ended in October 2025,” effectively nullifying claims of tenure elongation raised by the claimants.

Reacting, the APC through its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, described the implication of the judgment as far reaching, insisting it also called into question the validity of the February 2025 council elections conducted by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission.

The party urged members of the public to disregard what it termed misleading interpretations of the ruling, even as counsel to the affected chairmen confirmed that a Notice of Appeal had already been filed at the Court of Appeal, Akure Division, signalling the beginning of another phase in the legal battle.
