The Allied People’s Movement in Osun State has dismissed claims that it may withdraw from the 2026 governorship race or collapse its structure for one of the major parties.
The party said it remains fully committed to contesting the election and offering voters an alternative rooted in competence and integrity.
Speaking in a phone conversation on Saturday, the state chairman of the party, Adewale Adebayo, said APM had continued to attract a new wave of politicians, young professionals, and community-based leaders who see the party as a fresh platform for credible governance.
According to him, “They see APM as the only party today in Osun where capacity, integrity and ideas still matter.”
Adebayo added that what the party is experiencing is a political reawakening driven by people who are tired of the old pattern of leadership.
He noted that the acceptance the party is gaining has unsettled those who are used to dominating the political space.
He said, “Those spreading rumours that APM will collapse its structure for APC or PDP are simply uncomfortable with the rising acceptance of our party. They know the old order is shaking and they need a convenient narrative.”
Dismissing suggestions that APM might later align with either APC or PDP, Adebayo said the party is not in the contest to fill the ballot.
He explained that APM is entering the election with a mindset to win and give Osun a clean break from what he described as years of political recycling.
On preparations for the governorship primary scheduled for December 13, he confirmed that about six aspirants have already indicated interest in seeking the party’s ticket.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed December 15, 2025 as the deadline for political parties to submit the names of their candidates for the August 8, 2026 Osun governorship election.
