Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has commended the judiciary and security agencies for securing the conviction and death sentence of four suspects involved in the June 5, 2022 terror attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo.
The governor’s commendation was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan.
Aiyedatiwa described the court’s verdict as a victory for justice, the rule of law and the victims of the attack, which claimed the lives of several worshippers and left many others injured.
He said the diligence of the prosecution team, the thoroughness of investigators and the courage displayed by the judiciary underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes are brought to justice.
According to the governor, the judgment sends a strong message that those who take innocent lives will face the full weight of the law, regardless of how long it takes to secure justice.
Aiyedatiwa also praised the resilience of the people of Owo and the Catholic community, noting that despite the trauma caused by the attack, they had remained peaceful and steadfast.
He reassured residents of the state’s commitment to strengthening security through improved intelligence gathering and closer collaboration with security agencies to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
“While nothing can bring back the lives lost, this judgment provides a measure of closure and hope that justice is possible,” the governor was quoted as saying.
He also prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims and asked God to comfort their families.
